Gov. Bevin Rips JCPS Over Safe Haven Resolution

(Lousiville, KY)  --  Governor Bevin is blasting the Jefferson County Public Schools decision to become a Safe Haven for immigrants.  Bevin calls the Safe Haven resolution approved by a divided Board of Education a smoke screen to distract from disastrous education results.  The resolution says that JCPS will not ask about a student's immigration status, nor give immigration information out, without a court order.  Bevin called JCPS "an absolute, unmitigated disaster."  The governor described some of the district's schools among the finest in the state, but said others have "failed generation after generation."  Bevin suggested that the ordinance amounts to "breaking the law."  The board's vote was four in favor with three abstentions.
