LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Majority Floor Leader of the Kentucky Senate says a special session to handle tax and pension reform will happen, but it's still a long way off.
Republican Damon Thayer of Georgetown says meetings between Senate and House leaders and the governor's office are working in "broad strokes" on what a special session would look like.
Thayer says the session to handle tax and pension reforms wouldn't be until September or October, citing the amount of work that still needs to be done.
He's optimistic that both chambers and the governor can develop a solid plan before the session starts to expedite the process but warns there is still "a lot of heavy lifting left to do."
A special session will have to be a minimum of five days at a cost to taxpayers of $70,000 a day.
