Churchill Wins Approval for Gambling Machines

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Slots-like gambling is coming to Churchill Downs.

The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission approved the track's request for 600 historical racing machines.

The game allows bettors to wager on the outcome of a previously run race.   It's already offered at Ellis Park, Kentucky Downs and Red Mile.

The machines will be installed at a new venue at the former Trackside facility and will open next summer.

For years, Churchill Downs has lobbied -- unsuccessfully -- for legalized casino gambling in Kentucky.
