Derby Museum Expanding

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Kentucky Derby Museum is getting bigger.

Museum officials announced a $6.5 million expansion and renovation, the largest project since the building was constructed at Churchill Downs in 1985.

11,000 square feet of new space will be added to the museum, including a new third floor and a new stable to house the resident thoroughbred.

Construction will begin after next year's Kentucky Derby and will be completed by November.

The Derby Museum set a record attendance in the last fiscal year:  more than 230,000 visitors.
