FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Governor Bevin says a special session on pension reform is now impossible to call.
At his year-end press conference Bevin told reporters that, among other things, the suicide and funeral of State Representative Dan Johnson eliminated the last possible week he could have called the session.
Bevin says they will still address pension reform in the upcoming session, hinting legislators will tackle the issue at the beginning of the session before going on to pass what he calls a "doozy" of a budget.
He says the budget will be tough because of the pension debts and because the state is going to stop kicking the can down the road.
Bevin also pointed out that this budget will be the first passed by both a Republican controlled House and Senate and with a Republican as Governor, saying it will undo a century of Democrats "sticking it to this state."
The session starts January 2.
