JCPS: Lawyers Reviewing Takeover Counteroffer Now

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- JCPS says their counter offer is in the hands of lawyers.

Superintendent Marty Polio says after three hours of closed door meetings, JCPS' legal team is reviewing the district's counter proposal to the one offered by interim Education Commissioner Wayne Lewis to avoid a state takeover.

Polio admits getting to this point hasn't been easy with the district requiring extra time to put a plan together. He says the local Board of Education is writing their proposal to Dr. Lewis with the best interest of the students in mind.

The main sticking point between the two sides is who would maintain control of the student assignment plan. If no deal is reached, JCPS' appeal of the state's decision would be heard in September.
