FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Kentuckians are getting new driver's licenses to comply with changes in federal law.
The Real ID act requires states to upgrade the security of their driver's licenses, and Kentucky is among the last state's to comply with the law.
Beginning in January, Kentuckians can obtain a new standard license or a voluntary travel ID. The licenses are good for driving, voting and accessing federal and social benefit services. They will cost $43 and last for eight years.
The travel ID is needed to board domestic flights or visit military bases after October 2020. It will cost $48 and lasts for eight years.
