Fischer Says Louisville Is Ending 2018 On An Economic Roll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Mayor Greg Fischer says Louisville is ending 2018 on a roll.

Fischer touted the economic momentum generated by the Omni hotel downtown and a $1 billion investment in the city's West End as two of the major economic drivers he hopes will carry over to 2019.

Recapping the year with reporters, Fischer shrugged off talk of regrets saying he was pleased with the work his administration had done.

Fischer discussed the homeless crisis in the downtown area, saying the response from the community pleased him but is aware more will need to be done in 2019.

The mayor is looking ahead to the new year and a new legislative session in Frankfort where he wants to see Kentucky's hate crime laws strengthened in the wake of the Kroger shooting. Fischer is also looking for more local control when it comes to paying into the pension.

Locally, Fischer says one of his top priorities is finishing up the long list of road projects and making it easier for both residents and tourists to move around the city.
