(Louisville, KY) - JCPS is teaming up with Simmons College to reach a goal.

Earlier this year, JCPS said hiring nearly 160 teachers and administrators of color was part of its plan to close the achievement gap between white and black students.

JCPS officials say while 35 percent of its students are black, just 15 percent of its teachers are.

The plan is to recruit students of color with a college degree into a Simmons course that will have them complete a residency in a JCPS classroom before transitioning to a teaching position.
