LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The head of JCPS isn't expecting kids to be back in classrooms this school year.
Appearing on a virtual town hall with Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, JCPS Superintendent Marty Pollio says "its probably unlikely at this point" that in person learning will happen for the remainder of the academic year.
Pollio warns that the district may have to take their summer school program online as well depending on how soon health officials give the green light to gatherings larger than 10 people.
In the interim, Pollio says they've distrubted over 20,000 Chromebooks and they are working to get technology to an estimated "30,000 to 40,000" students who don't have it. He says the district has handed out over 400,000 meals and expects over a millions will be handed out before the end of the year on June 3.
In addressing the Class of 2020, Pollio says it is a priority to hold commencement ceremonies to honor the students, even if it means having them come back from college to do it.
